GoKunming

I’ve just noticed that GoKunming has added a Kunming Blogs section to the links page of the site – Thanks Chris.

I’m pretty sure all the people at home I enthusiastically gave my blog link to more than a year ago have got bored long ago when they realised I haven’t written anything for more than 3 months and nothing of any interest for at least 4 months. However, now with the possibility of more web traffic coming my way I feel suitably embarrased by the lack of content and pledge to something about it very soon (possibly even today). So watch this space.

Strangely, the list of Kunming Blogs on the Go Kunming links page has 3 blogs that have very similar names, elizabethinchina.com, jonathaninchina.com, and of course the long neglected greginchina.com. (I will add these and the other Kunming blogs to the links list on my page soon and if the writers of those sites are reading this I’d greatly appreciate if you’d do the same for me). I wonder what you guys think about having a blog with your name on it. I’m starting to think I’d much rather have done an anonymous one. I initially started this to keep friends and family aware of what I’m getting up to while in China as I know how annoying it can be to receive extremely long, impersonal group emails. However, I’ve never been much a diary or journal keeper. One of the reasons I haven’t blogged for a while is that I’m kind of overly mindful of not wanting to churn out tedious drivel – I don’t actually have a boring life – its really quite exciting at times – it just seems to be boring when I try to write about it every few weeks and then decide to abandon the post before I’ve finished writing. As yet I am still unable to write about what I’m actually doing businesswise (although some people have been told) as its still a bit of a secret until it finally gets off the ground. It’d be a lot more fun to write about things I’ve experienced or seen without the possibility of judgement or recrimination. Not that I’m really into writing nasty things about people but it would nice to occasionally be able to say “I saw X behaving like a complete XXXX and this is what I think about it”!

However, back to reality – there’s been a huge gap in the blog for quite a long time now and GoKunming’s bloglist has spurred me into action so I’ll hopefully be on here more often in future. I’ve got a fair bit to fill in and I’ll update you all on the last 4 months or so in my next post, and I’ll try to keep the tedious drivel to a minimum.

I’ll leave you with some interesting news (well its fairly interesting to me and provides me with some more ammunition to the question “why Kunming?”):

Kunming To Become Fourth Largest Airport Hub In China
June 13, 2006

Liu Zhijun, an official from the Kunming Airport Economic Zone Management Committee, has disclosed that a new Kunming Airport will be put into operation in 2009.

This new airport is being positioned by the Chinese government as the fourth largest airport hub in China. It is located northeast of Kunming, with a construction area of 21 square kilometers.

It can be used for both F-type planes and for the Airbus 380’s landing and departure.

Along with the construction of the new airport, an Airport Economic Zone that covers about 160 square kilometers will also be built.

Upon the completion of the new airport network, passengers who live 200km around Kunming can drive to the airport within two hours. China Hospitality News

and

Wednesday, 13 September 2006, 18:12 GMT. The global design and engineering group Arup won an agreement to develop a design for the new Yunnan Kunming International Airport in southern China.

It will become the country’s fourth largest airport hub. BBC News

Kunming is clearly an up-and-coming place to be for anyone who’s looking a bit more long term than Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Lets just hope it doesn’t lose its relaxed, friendly feel that makes it so appealing.

Nice to see that you’re blogging again.

Yes, it is a strange thing to publicly journal. Of course you can’t always say everything that’s on your mind, and your perceived audience may not be your actual audience. Anyway, I think it would be more work to have an anonymous blog. I’ve had a few people confess to me that they have secret blogs. I’m not sure if they spend a lot of time trying to hide their identity.

You can always start a second blog that’s anonymous.

    Thanks.

I think I’ll stick to this blog and forgoe the anonymous one for now. Just uploaded lots of photos and videos.

Its nice to get a comment from a real person and not from some sad pathetic loser who thinks he’ll get away with using my blog to sell viagra or online casinos, lol.
