Hey G,

I have been here for a month, only had a couple days where there were issues with gmail. Not sure if they are China-related.

A few ideas you may already be familiar with that could help with web-browsing and international calls if you have your own computer to install some stuff:

If you want to escape all web restrictions, try Tor (tor.eff.org). It allows you to browse anonymously and get to any site you want. It slows down your browsing, but you can turn it off when you don't need to access things like foreign news...

I use skype for all my international calls--costs 2cents a minute to many countries. www.skype.com. You just buy $10 credit at a time. Calls are usually clear if you have a headset/microphone (you call over your computer), and a high-speed connection.

Hope this info is helpful
